Paris: Benjamin Duprat, 1839. Quarter morocco with green vellum tips, 10 inches tall. An impressive binding with raised bands and a coronet atop a monogram in the panels and gilt top edge. With the bookplate of the Bibliothèque de Mouchy. Slight rubbing and a stain to the corner of some leaves. A tall copy finely printed on hand made paper.

Paris: P. Boizard, 1845. Half morocco, 10 1/2 inches tall. A fine and very bright later half morocco with gilt raised bands, floral gilt tooling to the panels and yellow edges. With the binder's ticket of Albert Günther of Vienna, and from the Library of the Auersperg Palais, though the bookplates have been neatly removed. With full page plates and vignettes throughout by '...les Artistes les plus Distingués...', illustrating the horrors of the Spanish Inquisition. Slight sporadic foxing, overall a fine bright set.

Paris: Charles Warée, 1844. Half morocco, 10 1/2 inches tall. A fine and very bright later half morocco with gilt raised bands, floral gilt tooling to the panels and yellow edges. With the binder's ticket of Albert Günther of Vienna, and from the Library of the Auersperg Palais, though the bookplates have been neatly removed. Embellished with 30 splendid full page engravings by Gavarni, Th. Frère, Émy, Guérin and Ed. Frère illustrating the distinctive features and manners of the various races and nationalities of the Parisian visitors and inhabitants. With engraved vignettes throughout. There is sporadic light foxing and slight staining to the border of some plates but generally bright and clean.

Avignon: Girard, 1761. Full calf, 7 1/2 inches tall. Full 18th century mottled calf with gilt raised bands, label and fine floral gilt tooling to the panels. Pink edges. Although the binding is still perfectly solid there is rubbing, creasing, loss to the bottom panel and a defunct worm hole on the upper board. With the rather splendid bookplate of The Earl of Suffolk and Berkshire and the neat ink signatures of 2 previous owners on the title page.

Paris: Libraire de Charles Gosselin, 1843-44. 4 volume set, 10 1/4 inches tall. A fine and very bright half morocco with gilt raised bands, floral gilt tooling to the panels and yellow edges. With the binder's ticket of Albert Günther of Vienna, and from the Library of the Auersperg Palais, though the bookplates have been neatly removed. With 47 splendid wood-engraved plates and 34 steel-engraved plates and very numerous vignettes by Daumier, Staal, Daubigny, Célestin Nanteuil and others.. An exceptionally clean and fine set of the first illustrated edition of this fascinating work.

An exceptionally clean and fine set of the first edition.

Paris: Kugelmann, 1844. 2 volume set, 10 inches tall. A fine and very bright half morocco with gilt raised bands, floral gilt tooling to the panels and yellow edges. With the binder's ticket of Albert Günther of Vienna, and from the Library of the Auersperg Palais, though with the bookplates neatly removed. Numerous wood engraved plates and vinettes by Célestin Nanteuil and others illustrating the colourful, romantic and savage history of these famous streets and boulevards. A fine set of the first edition.

Paris: Chez le Normant, 1806. Full morocco, 6 1/2 inches tall. A beautiful French full straight grain morocco binding from the very beginning of the nineteenth century in the Romantic style with wide gilt raised bands and exquisite blind and gilt tooling to the spine and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Engraved frontispiece. From the bookplate of the noted collector Sir David Lionel Salomons. A delightfully bound edition of this tragic tale from Greek mythology in pristine condition.

Paris: Combet, c. 1910. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. Splendid Edwardian tree calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and very fine gilt floral tooling to the panels. A gilt fillet frames the tree calf and Eton prize block of the boards. Each work is preceded by an engraved plate. Eton prize bookplate dated 1912. With a life of Molière by Voltaire. A handsome, heavy set. In the original French.

London: At the Chiswick Press for the Paris Académie Des Bibliophiles, 1868. Full morocco, 8 inches tall. A superb full straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands and very fine and rich gilt tooling to the panels and boards. With gilt dentelles and all edges. Slightly rubbed at the head and with a little staining to the upper board. This example is number 98 of 265 copies. This is a study of the Talmud by Deutch who came from Berlin, but worked in the department of oriental manuscripts at the British Museum.

Bruxelles: Dumont, 1835. 3 volumes, bound in 2 complete, 6 inches tall. A pretty little set in full vellum with twin labels and sparkling gilt tooling to the spine. Blue speckled edges. A previous owner's neat ink inscription on the half titles reading: G.H. Gladstone (?) Rome April 1839. Engraved plates. A lovely little set by one of the great woman writers and political theorists of her time, in the original French.

Leide (Leiden): Wetstein, 1762. Full calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A very good looking copy of this important reference work in 18th century full speckled calf with gilt raised bands, label and a lovely centre tool of a bird in foliage. Pink speckled edges. Bookplate. In pristine condition.

Paris: Perlet, 1803. 23 volume set, 8 1/4 inches tall. A most attractive and unusual full calf from the period of publication. The very elegant spines have gilt bands, twin labels and ornate and delicate centre tooling, typical of the period. Embellished with 74 fine full page engravings. A fine gilt roll frames the boards which blend tree calf with speckled lozenges in a superb fashion. Minor rubbing. With the armorial bookplates of Lord Kinnaird. A lovely set of Petitot's greatest work.

Decorated with a portrait of Racine, 12 plates designed by Gravelot. A splendid set, in the original French, of the works of one of the great French dramatists.

La Haye: Scheurleer, 1729. Half calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A simple, though very pleasing, Georgian half calf with gilt bands, label and blind centre tools. With the armorial bookplate of Vane Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. There is an ink smudge on the title page of volume 1, otherwise the set is pristine inside and out.
