Paris: Combet, c. 1910. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. Splendid Edwardian tree calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and very fine gilt floral tooling to the panels. A gilt fillet frames the tree calf and Eton prize block of the boards. Each work is preceded by an engraved plate. Eton prize bookplate dated 1912. With a life of Molière by Voltaire. La Haye: Scheurleer, 1729. Half calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A simple, though very pleasing, Georgian half calf with gilt bands, label and blind centre tools. With the armorial bookplate of Vane Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses. Engraved frontispiece and folding Royal pedigree, the latter has a small tear with no loss.

Paris: Baudouin Fréres, 1824. Half vellum, 8 inches tall. an elegant volume in a neat half vellum binding with gilt pallets and centre tools and contrasting green label. With the bookplate of Vane Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses. Engraved frontispiece. Paris: Charpentier, 1865 (1866). Half morocco, 7 1/2 inches tall. A very fine half crushed morocco with gilt raised bands, gilt framed panels and gilt top edge. The original wrappers are bound in. With the bookplate of Alfred and Blanche de Curzon. There is a stain on the original title page which has offset onto the end paper and a slight degree of foxing. Otherwise a beautiful copy of this scarce and bizarre first edition. 'Spirite' is an extraordinary tale which, unusually for Gautier, ends happily, with the young couple passionately in love being together, but only in the afterlife in the form of sprites. Paris: A. Quantin, 1883. Half morocco, 11 inches tall. With the delightful silk wrappers with ribbons and the charming paper wraps bound in. Translated as "The Sunshade, Muff and Gloves" in English, this is his second book about fashion. Illustrated throughout by Paul Avril. The spine is slightly faded, but overall a fine example of the first French edition.

Gilt top edge. One of 500 copies. Original wrappers bound in. The tale of the seduction of a novice by a priest.

Paris: E. Houndaille, 1839. 2 volume set, 10 inches tall. A very finely gilt tooled half calf with wide gilt raised bands and extra gilt panels. Prefaced with an historical essay by M. & Mme Guizot. Full page engraved plates by Gigoux. Some foxing but overall a fine set of this great 12th century correspondence. In the original French.

Paris: Benjamin Duprat, 1839. Quarter morocco with green vellum tips, 10 inches tall. An impressive binding with raised bands and a coronet atop a monogram in the panels and gilt top edge. With the bookplate of the Bibliothèque de Mouchy. Slight rubbing and a stain to the corner of some leaves. A tall copy finely printed on hand made paper.

Paris: Hardouin, 1784. 2 volume set, 5 inches tall. A very simple yet good looking full calf with gilt bands, twin olive labels and tiny floral centre tools. All edges gilt. With the bookseller's ticket 'Vendu par DETREZ Libraire, place Sorbonne, No 4 a Paris'. The first volume consists of 'Poésies érotiques' and 'Voyage', the second volume of 'La journée champêtre', 'Le promontroire de Leucade', Les fleurs', and 'Mélange'. With exquisite engraved plates.
