    London Hutchinson & Co. and Stanley, Paul & Co., 1903-1914. 13 volume collection, 8 1/2 inches tall. A good looking Edwardian half morocco by the great London firm of bookbinders, Sangorski and Sutcliffe, for Brentano's of New York. With gilt raised bands, neat gilt tooled panels around a fleure des lys centre tool and gilt top edges. There is rubbing and a certain blotchiness to the spines, but this a still a very presentable collection of some very scarce and highly entertaining titles, in fact we couldn't find another run of these works. Illustrated throughout. Andrew C.P. Haggard was the brother of the immensely successful novelist H. Rider Haggard.

Embellished with 21 hand comic hand-coloured aquatints by George Cruikshank and a further 22 wood engravings. This unique copy also contains a tipped in signature of George Cruikshank, a tipped in note by Robert Cruikshank and a tipped in letter of George Bell. Slightly rubbed but still a super copy of the rollicking adventures of a band of young English Gentlemen enjoying life to the full in Paris.

Gilt top edges. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. With all the original fine engravings reprinted. Following the pattern of Bocaccio's Decameron, Marguerite of Navarre intended to write 100 tales but died after completing 72, into the 8th day. Many of the stories deal with love, lust, infidelity, and other romantic and sexual matters. A very fine set of these 16th century tales in the original French.

First printed in 1665 his Maximes portraying the callous nature of human conduct, with a cynical attitude towards putative virtue and avowals of affection, friendship, love, and loyalty. These established La Rochefoucauld in his position among the men of letters of the period.
