London: Macmillan and Co., 1881. 4 volume set, 8 3/4 inches tall. A bright full vellum with very fine gilt tooling to the panels and twin labels. Twin gilt fillets and corner tools frame the boards. Pink edges. Bookplate. Neat ink inscription on the first blank dated 1883. Maps. Some speckles on the boards but generally clean with a nice patina. Hugely popular as an historian in his day Green is now considered overly romantic, passionate and patriotic but still highly readable. A fine set.

London: John Bell, 1791. 7 volumes, 6 inches tall. Full straight grain morocco with label, gilt bands, titles, superb centre tools, all edges and dentelles. This is the first 7 volumes of Tragedies, part of John Bell's British library series. Containing many plays all individually paginated. Each also has a superb engraved frontispiece and title page. An exceedingly pretty run.

London: Longman et al., 1830-1832. 2 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. Exquisite little set with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and triple labels. Note the spectacular volume label. The tree calf boards are framed within an ornate floral gilt roll. Each title page has an engraved vignette. This 2 volume set constituted the first part of 'The History of the Western World' But is complete in itself. From the library of Edward Nicholas Hurt, most of whose books were of this highest quality.

London: Sampson Low, Marston & Company, 1897. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. This great 'Life of Nelson', first edition, in a very smart half navy blue morocco by Riviere with gilt raised bands and fine gilt naval centre tools within neat gilt frames on the panels. Gilt top edges. With 20 full page illustrations and a further 20 maps and battle plans. Captain Mahan of The United States Navy wrote several of the most important and influential naval histories of the 19th century. From the library of Alfred de Rothschild, but without his bookplate. A magnificent set.

London: T. Bensley for J. White, 1802. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. The first collected edition. A remarkable full pigskin binding by Zaehnsdorf with double raised bands, blind pallets to the panels and a triple blind fillet framing the boards. A little discolouration to the boards otherwise a very fine set. Blind tooled dentelles and all edges gilt. With the armorial bookplate of Alfred Acland of Feniton Court, Devon. Engraved frontispiece and folding plate in volume 1, hand-coloured folding frontispiece and hand-coloured plate in volume 2.

London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1890-91. 6 volumes, 8 1/2 inches tall. Splendid late Victorian full morocco bindings by Bickers with gilt raised bands and exquisite gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A neat ink signature dated 1894 on the front free endpapers. Very profusely illustrated throughout with vignettes and full page plates. Some foxing in particular on the preliminaries. A very good looking set of this great Dublin born art historian.

London: Edward Moxon, 1841. 6 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A superb early Victorian calf binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels, the volume labels being especially ornate and extra gilt panels. Portrait. With a neat ink inscription on the first blank "Emily Westmacott....1845". Some scuffing to the edges but overall a particularly attractive set, published in the great romantic poet's lifetime.

London: Allason, Maynard and Blair, 1819. 9 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A delightful Regency set in full straight grain calf with gilt raised bands and splendid gilt tooling to the panels. Frontispiece. Sporadic light foxing.

London: J. Dodsley, 1765. 3 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A splendid late Victorian full crushed morocco by Webb & Hunt with gilt raised bands and extra gilt panels. Twin gilt fillets frame the boards. Armorial bookplate. A very neat set of the first edition of this most famous collection of ballads and popular songs. When published it captured the public's imagination, influencing such poets as Coleridge, Wordsworth and Walter Scott.

London: Bickers & Son, 1884. 5 volume set, 8 3/4 inches tall. A very handsome late Victorian half crushed calf, almost certainly by Bickers, with gilt raised bands, gilt tooled panels and gilt top edges. Extra-Illustrated with 228 plates, many hand-coloured. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. Wraxall's 'Postumous Memoirs', first published in 1836, are very readable and have real historical value. A fine set.

London: Nicol, Rivington et al, 1813. 4 volume set, 9 inches tall. A simple but very fine later half crushed morocco by Ramage with gilt raised bands, titles and top edges. Bookplate. Portrait. A splendid set of the second edition of the dramatic works of this great seventeenth century English playwright.

A gilt prize block on the upper boards and an ink prize inscription on the first blank. Illustrated throughout. A splendid set.

Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, 1876-1877. 25 volume set, 9 inches tall. A bright, handsome set in Victorian half calf with gilt raised bands, gilt thistle centre tools and twin labels. Red Speckled edges. Very profusely illustrated with full page engraved portraits and views. A readable and smartly bound collected edition of Sir Walter Scott's hugely popular novels.

A splendid collection of the 3 Italy volumes of 'The Landscape Annuals' for 1831, 32 & 33, all are large-paper copies and in pristine condition. Bound in their published full green morocco by F. Westley and with the binder's ticket. With gilt raised bands, blind rolls and corner tools framing the boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. With a total of 74 superb engraved plates on India paper of city views by J.D. Harding and Samuel Prout as well as engraved frontispieces and title page vignettes to each volume.

A splendid full vellum bound set of this classic work with raised bands, fine gilt tooled panels and twin labels, double gilt fillets frame the gilt embossed crest of the Hulme Bequest on the boards. Pink edges. Some marks to the bindings and foxing confined to the preliminaries. A handsome set of the greatest work of this English historian and ecclesiastic.
