    London: Macmillan and Co., 1881. 4 volume set, 8 3/4 inches tall. A bright full vellum with very fine gilt tooling to the panels and twin labels. Twin gilt fillets and corner tools frame the boards. Pink edges. Bookplate. Neat ink inscription on the first blank dated 1883. Maps. Some speckles on the boards but generally clean with a nice patina. Hugely popular as an historian in his day Green is now considered overly romantic, passionate and patriotic but still highly readable. A fine set.

Gilt top edges. With 20 full page illustrations and a further 20 maps and battle plans. Captain Mahan of The United States Navy wrote several of the most important and influential naval histories of the 19th century. From the library of Alfred de Rothschild, but without his bookplate. A magnificent set.

A remarkable full pigskin binding by Zaehnsdorf with double raised bands, blind pallets to the panels and a triple blind fillet framing the boards. A little discolouration to the boards otherwise a very fine set. Blind tooled dentelles and all edges gilt. With the armorial bookplate of Alfred Acland of Feniton Court, Devon. Engraved frontispiece and folding plate in volume 1, hand-coloured folding frontispiece and hand-coloured plate in volume 2.
