Paris: L’auteur des Estampes, 1786-1793. 3 volume set, 12 inches tall. An old tipped in catalogue entry attributes this magnificent binding to Charles Lewis. With wide gilt raised bands, delicate and ornate gilt tooling to the panels, twin labels, dentelles and all edges gilt. Complete with 3 engraved title pages, portrait and 73 engraved plates after Le Barbier. There are an extra 18 stipple engraved plates and 70 highly decorative vignettes. Some speckling and scuffing to the boards. A super copy of this beautiful 18th century deluxe edition.

Paris: chez la Veuve P. Bertrand, 1714. Full calf, 11 inches tall. Splendid full later cat's paw calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and fine floral gilt tooled panels. Gilt dentelles and pink edges. With 65 portraits of the French kings. Some foxing to the preliminaries. Expert repair to the title page. With the bookplates of the Marquis de Biencourt of the Château de Masfaure.

London: Boydell, 1785. Full straight grain morocco, 10.5 inches tall. With wide blind tooled raised bands, exceptionally dense gilt panels, blind and gilt rolls framing the boards and all edges gilt. With 50 engraved plated. Somewhat rubbed and with heavy foxing to the preliminaries and less so to the plates. With the bookplate of Evelyn John Shirley of Ettington Park.

London: John Sharpe, 1829. Full crushed morocco, 8 inches tall. A delightful binding with wide gilt raised bands, dense gilt tooling to the panels, fine gilt tooling framing the boards and all edges gilt. 2 engraving presentation pages (both blank), Engraved portrait, engraved title page and a further 16 full page engraved plates. An interesting anthology including contributions by John Clare, Lord Byron and Robert Southey. A neat ink owners name on the title page.

London: Rodwell and Martin, 1820. Full morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A most attractive binding with twin gilt raised bands and extra gilt tooling to the panels. The boards are also densely decorated with gilt and blind tooling framing an elaborate central device. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Slightly rubbed but still a fine firm and clean example. With 60 splendid views and vignette on the title page. A superb example of this scarce work.

London: Hall, Virtue & Co. c.1845. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A superb binding with raised bands, finely gilt tooled panels and most attractive gilt tooling to the boards. All edges gilt. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst. With maps and splendid engraved plates.

London: Hall, Virtue & Co, 1851. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A splendid early Victorian morocco binding with raised bands, elaborate gilt tooling to the panels, superb gilt and blind tooling to the boards, gilt dentelles and all edges. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst. embellished with 28 steel engravings including views of Spain, Malta and North Africa.

The boards are magnificently tooled in blind and gilt. All edges gilt. There is a tiny amount of worming effecting the gutter of the front endpaper and preliminaries. With 60 splendid views and vignette on the title page. A superb example of this scarce work.

London: Cadell, 1830. Full morocco, 8 inches tall. An unusual colour and an unusual design with superb gilt tooling to the spine and boards. All edges gilt. Illustrated throughout with engravings by Joseph Mallord William Turner. Internally very clean which is unusual for this edition which is often badly foxed. A beautiful copy of the first edition.

London: Hector M'lean, 1819. Full straight grain morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A very fine Regency binding with wide extra gilt raised bands and panels. The boards are framed within wide gilt and blind rolls. All edges gilt. Fine engraved plates by Smirke. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst.

A splendid binding from the beginning of the Victorian period with wide gilt raised bands, magnificent tooling to the boards and all edges gilt. Including the title page there are 42 engraved views by David Roberts. Foxing, particularly heavy on the title page. With the bookseller's ticket of Pocock of Bath. A rare tall edition, with no text, in a spectacular binding.

London: Fisher,n.d (1839). Half morocco, 11 inches tall. A very handsome copy with wide gilt raised bands, delicate gilt tooling to the panels and embossed cloth boards. All edges gilt. A folding map and 63 fine full page engravings.

London: Virtue, 1836. Full straight grain morocco, 11 inches tall. A fabulously bound set with extraordinary gilt and white metal tooled spine and boards.the elaborate 'cathedral' design on all four boards is made up from individual tooling, as is the superb tooling on the spines. All edges gilt. Illustrated with 2 engraved titles and 106 full page engraved views and I folding map. Some foxing to the plates and slight fading to the spine, but still a fine and spectacular set.

London: Richard Bentley, 1876. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. A superbly bound set by Tout with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and gilt top edges. Extra illustrated with 124 engraved plates. From the library of Brian Forbes, the Film Director. A unique and most elegant item bound by one of the most celebrated firms of binders of the period.

London: Thomas McLean, 1824. Full morocco, 11.25 inches tall. A very fine binding by TOUT with gilt raised bands, floral gilt tooling to the panels and elaborate gilt tooling to the boards. Wide dentelles, doublures and gilt top edge. 12 superb hand coloured lithographs satirising the arts.

London: H.Moses, 1817. Full calf, 11 inches tall. With raised bands, labels, decorated gilt spine and boards, dentelles and top edge. Bound by Burgess of Ramsgate in 1940 (at the cost of one pound five shillings). With 24 superb engravings by Henry Moses and one folding plan of Ramsgate Harbour. There is a degree of foxing, some fraying to a couple of title pages with no loss and a small professional repair to the plan of Ramsgate Harbour, again with no loss. An unusually tall and handsome copy of this difficult title.

London: Longman, 1846. Full crushed morocco, 10.5 inches tall. Splendid heavy Victorian binding with raised bands, extra floral gilt panels and boards, titles, dentelles and all edges. Illustrated throughout by Maclise with beautiful illustrations all within decorative borders. Some foxing throughout and light scuffing, a patch of leather on the lower board has been squidged with no loss.
