A superb full citron morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands, simple but most elegant gilt pallets to the panels and a series of gilt fillets framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges, the remaining edges untrimmed. One of a deluxe limited edition of just 210 copies printed on Japanese vellum. The spines are slightly darkened but are still bright, otherwise pristine. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey and with the bookplate of Ernest G. Mocatta. With a prize block on the boards and a neat ink prize inscription to the reverse of the front end paper in volume 1. Illustrated with engraved vignettes. Volume II states in the preface that as well as several...tales of the "Thousand-and-one-Nights".... 'four tales are given, for the first time in this country, from the German of Grimm (Jalaladdeen, Haschem, the To Talismans, and Jussuf)'. A superb little set of a very scarce work.

    Paris: Carrington, 1906. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. A handsome set with raised bands, delicate gilt tooled panels and top edges. Limited to one thousand copies and published in Paris due to its somewhat racy contents. Sometimes known as 'The Pleasant Nights' or 'The Facetious Nights', these 16th century fables and tales contain several of the first appearances of fairy stories still that are still familiar today.
