Uniformly bound in a magnificent full straight grain morocco by the great firm of Clarke & Bedford with gilt raised bands and superb floral gilt tooling to the panels. A series of gilt fillets and ornate gilt corner tooling frames the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. The 2 volume 'Silva' contains 42 engraved plates and 2 folding tables. Silva was a highly influential book and the first important publication on Forestry published in England. This edition "contains an enormous amount of information concerning the cultivation of the various kinds of forest tree...., no other work on arboriculture exerted a greater influence on forestry in this country' (Henrey). 'The Memoirs' have engraved frontispieces, a folding genealogy of the Evelyn family, 3 portrait engravings, and 6 further engravings. The 'Miscellaneous Writings' contain an engraved frontispiece and 3 further engravings. There is a degree of foxing to the plates. The bookplate of Andrew Carnegie is to be found in all 5 volumes.
