In a magnificent especially commissioned half red morocco with gilt raised bands and superb gilt tooling to the panels. Bound for Michael Arthur Bass, 1st Baron Burton of Rangemore Hall, his huge Country House, befitting the head of the then largest brewery in the world, Bass & Company. Especially bound sets of this edition are very scarce, which are usually found in a rather drab maroon or black half morocco or a dull green cloth. They are also very scarce in this excellent condition, exhibiting only slight rubbing and no splits or loss. Sometimes found with a separate Atlas, in this set the maps are found where relevant throughout the set.

The boards are framed within gilt corner tools and triple fillets. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Embellished with all 36 hand coloured aquatints from designs by Robert Cruikshank.

With 36 hand coloured aquatints by I.R. and George Cruikshank and 3 folding pages of songs. Some offsetting from the plates. London: Hunter; Baldwin et al., 1825. 14 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. A lovely set in full straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands and extra gilt panels. The boards are framed with gilt and blind rolls, so typical of bindings of this period. All edges gilt. This is a scarce first collected edition (Sadleir 784- "of extreme scarcity"). Engraved vignette on all title pages. Maria Edgeworth was a highly prolific writer of adult and children's literature and very influential in the development of the English novel.

Bristol: W. Richardson, 1828. Full blue calf, 5 1/2 inches tall. A delightful William IV diced calf on a very scarce title, we could only locate 2 examples of any edition in institutions. This copy is in remarkable condition with gilt raised bands, blind centre tool framed with gilt corner tools and a darker blue label. The dicing on the boards is framed within an ornate little gilt fillet. Bristol imprint. With the neat ink inscription "Mary Ann Marks. Aug. 1828 á Jesse" on the second blank. A little foxing on the engraved title page, otherwise clean. Some neat pencil underlining and highlighting.

Some offsetting, otherwise clean. With the bookplate of Vane Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.
