Paris: Le Livre Contemporain, 1905. Full inlaid crushed morocco, 9.5 inches tall. A beautiful Art-Nouveau binding by Petrus Ruban with a wreath of roses inlaid in hues of soft pink, with leaves and buds in shades of green, raised bands and inlaid branches of roses climbing through the panels. Watered silk endpapers and doublures. With alternating large and small inlaid pink morocco daisies on the turn-ins. Original blue-gray wraps bound in. Housed in matching morocco backed chemise and morocco edged slipcase. With title page vignette and 58 engraved views by Gustave Leheutre. With morocco bookplate of the great French bibliophile George Wendling on verso of free end paper and his small stamp on second blank. No. 73 of 117 deluxe copies. A beautiful work in outstanding condition.

Bruxelles: Paul Lacomblez, 1914. Full morocco, 13 inches tall. A truly magnificent binding in pristine condition by Paul Affolter with gilt raised bands, superb gilt tooling with onlays to the panels and framing the boards. Wide gilt dentelles and watered silk doublures and free endpapers. Number 50 of 75 copies on 'japon imperial' with an extra suite of colour plates. In the original felt lined and leather trimmed slipcase also signed by Affolter. Based on an obscure 16th century romance, Coster's masterpiece tells of the adventures of a Flemish prankster, Thyl Ulenspiegel, during the wars of the Reformation in the Netherlands and became popular all over the world.

A beautiful work in an exquisite binding by Affolter with gilt raised bands and glorious floral gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Elaborately gilt tooled dentelles and all edges. Sparkling embroidered silk end papers. The leather trimmed, felt lined slip case is splitting, but has preserved the book in pristine condition. The plates in 3 and 5 states. London, Paris, New York: Goupil & Co., 1901. Full morocco, 12.75 inches tall. A stunning copy of the best edition bound by Zaehnsdorf for Wm. Brown in full crushed morocco with raised bands and elegant gilt panels. The royal crest on the boards is framed within a series of gilt and blind fillets and corner tools. Gilt dentelles and top edges. Colour portrait and monochrome and sepia full page plates and vignettes throughout. Limited to just 300 copies on Japanese paper, of which this is number 91. Armorial bookplate. A splendid copy of this luxurious edition.

The spine is superbly tooled in the aesthetic manner with morocco onlays, the boards are bound with a natural tan morocco. Gilt top edges. This set in number 3 of 12 copies ,out of a limited edition of 300, on 'imperiales du Japon' with the plates in 4 states and the vignettes in 3. An unsentimental and gripping account of military life with the concept of honour vanishing from the post Napoleonic army. A superb set in pristine condition. In the original French.

An extraordinarily bright and colourful binding by the Paris bindery Trautz Bauzonnet in full crushed morocco with gilt raised bands and floral gilt tooling to the spine. The boards and doublures are elaborately gilt tooled with floral onlays. Top edge gilt. Embellished with colour frontispieces, full page plates and vignettes. Classic work in a fabulous binding.
