    London: Chapman and Hall, 1882. 30 volume set, 10.25 inches tall, 6 feet 3 inches in length. A spectacular set, an Edition de Luxe, limited to 1000 copies of which this is number 67. Simply but elegantly bound by Zaehnsdorf in half crushed morocco with gilt raised bands, gilt titles, pallets and all edges. Illustrated throughout with india paper engravings on card, some hand coloured. Some slight scuffing but with no weakening of boards or loss. A superb set of this grand work, the finest of all Chapman and Hall's editions.

A truly magnificent binding in pristine condition by Paul Affolter with gilt raised bands, superb gilt tooling with onlays to the panels and framing the boards. Wide gilt dentelles and watered silk doublures and free endpapers. Number 50 of 75 copies on 'japon imperial' with an extra suite of colour plates. In the original felt lined and leather trimmed slipcase also signed by Affolter. Based on an obscure 16th century romance, Coster's masterpiece tells of the adventures of a Flemish prankster, Thyl Ulenspiegel, during the wars of the Reformation in the Netherlands and became popular all over the world.

Portrait. One of 52 copies on 'papier de Hollande', initialed by Dumas to Gustave Boulanger the celebrated figure painter. On the half title there is a further inscription 'a Gustave Boulanger - Bonne amitie, A Dumas f'. Two letters from his daughter, Collette Dumas, are slipped in and she has written a further inscription on the second blank.
