London: Charles Black, 1903. Half vellum, 9 inches tall. An Edwardian nostalgic view of England in a superb half vellum binding with gilt raised bands, large label and fine gilt floral tooling with a red calf petal onlay by Henry Young of Liverpool. With 80 full page colour plates. With light foxing and a neat previous owners ink name on the first blank. A lovely copy of this charming evocation of days gone by.

London: Sherwood, 1825. 2 Volume set, 9 1/2" tall. A later beautiful full crushed Morocco by Ramage with gilt raised bands and superb gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt corner tools and fillets frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges, and the book plate of Joseph Turner. Embellished with 71 witty hand coloured aquatints, 2 engraved title pages and many engraved vignettes. A wonderful set of this highly entertaining work.

London: John Fairburn, 1822. 9 inches tall. A beautiful later full straight grain calf by the brilliant and elusive Lucien Broca. With gilt raised bands and superb extra gilt tooling to the panels. Triple gilt fillets frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edge. Embellished with 21 comic hand-coloured aquatints by George Cruikshank and a further 22 wood engravings. An exceptionally lovely copy of the rollicking adventures of a band of young English Gentlemen enjoying life to the full in Paris in excellent condition in a binding by one of the greatest craftsmen of his generation.

London: Jones & Co., 1822. Half morocco, 8 1/2 inches tall. A handsome Victorian binding by Murphy of Liverpool, with gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooling incorporating shamrocks in the panels and gilt top edge. With an hilarious hand-coloured frontispiece and 18 further outrageous plates by, amongst others, Henry Alken and William Heath. The binding is slightly faded, but still bright. There is some foxing, occasional creasing and slight grubbiness but overall an unusually good example of this scarce work in the style of Pierce Egan.

Delicate gilt tooling frames the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With the armorial bookplate of George Seton Veitch. Original wrapper bound in. Embellished with 21 hand comic hand-coloured aquatints by George Cruikshank and a further 22 wood engravings. This unique copy also contains a tipped in signature of George Cruikshank, a tipped in note by Robert Cruikshank and a tipped in letter of George Bell. Slightly rubbed but still a super copy of the rollicking adventures of a band of young English Gentlemen enjoying life to the full in Paris.

London: G. Virtue, 1830. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. An exceptionally tall copy in a beautiful later full straight grain morocco binding by Sotheran of Piccadilly. With gilt raised bands, a superb boxing centre tool within an ornate cartouche in the panels and the boards, gilt dentelles and top edges, the remaining edges untrimmed. With 2 armorial bookplates. Embellished with all 36 hilarious hand-coloured aquatints from designs by Robert Cruikshank. A pristine example of this great comic work, in which our heroes continue with their debauched adventures around London.

London: Philip Lee Warner Publisher to the Medici Society, 1912. Full morocco, 10 1/4 inches tall. A wonderful and unique binding by Bumpus with raised bands and onlays on the panels. The crushed morocco on the boards is framed with a beautiful gilt border with a green Greek key design and further onlays. Watered silk doublures and all edges gilt. Printed on hand-made Riccardi Paper in a limited edition of 500 copies. With 12 superb illustrations in colour by William Russell Flint. A unique volume, in pristine condition, of Kingsley's great retelling of the Myths and Legends of Greek Mythology.

London: William Sams, 1822. Full morocco, 14 1/2 inches tall. In a later full crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands and delicate gilt tooling to the panels. A panel with elaborate gilt corner tooling and a wide and elegant roll frames the boards. Wide gilt dentelles and all edges. The folio has been preserved in a sturdy buckram case, ensuring the pristine condition of the volume. Tissues guard the plates, which show scenes of many vibrantly hand-coloured characters rather than emphasising the great buildings of the city which tend to be in the background. We see a lively portrayal of beautifully costumed Parisians in diverse walks of life. A splendid copy of one of the finest books of the period on Paris.

London: R. Ackermann, 1815: 1815. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A tall and sumptuous later full crushed morocco binding by the great firm of Bedford. With gilt raised bands and exceptional gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and top edge. Very slight fading to the spine but still a wonderful copy from the library of a Scottish Gentleman. Hand-colored aquatint frontispiece, engraved title page and a further 16 hand-colored aquatint plates, as listed. First edition in book form. As good a copy of this highly entertaining work as one could hope to find.

An exceptionally tall copy with gilt raised bands, ornate floral gilt tooling to the panels, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, wide gilt dentelles and top edges gilt. With 36 hand coloured aquatints by I.R. and George Cruikshank and 3 folding pages of songs. The original paper spine and cover, and advertisements, bound in. The images illustrate the hilarious and bawdy adventures of Jerry and his companions in Regency London. A beautiful volume.

London: Thomas Boys, 1820. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A wonderful tall late Victorian binding by the great firm of Bedford in pristine condition, inside and out. With gilt raised bands and luxurious floral gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt triple fillets frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edge. With an engraved title page and 12 hilarious full page hand coloured plates by Isaac Robert Cruikshank. From the library of a Scottish Gentleman. As fine a copy as one could possibly find of the first edition of this hilarious work advising much scrimping and saving.

London: T. Tegg, 1815. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A fabulous later tall full crushed morocco by the great firm of Bedford from the library of a Scottish Gentleman. With gilt raised bands, superb gilt tooling to the panels of the highest quality, wide gilt denteles and gilt top edge. With 30 hand-coloured aquatints, by George Cruikshank, including the title page, as called for. There is a small gouge in one of the panels, otherwise a sparking, pristine and exceptionally tall copy of this great and highly disrespectful comic work by 'Doctor Syntax'.

London: Printed by Bensley for Jennings and Tomkins, 1823. Full morocco, 7 inches tall. An exquisite little binding by Bayntun with gilt raised bands, beautiful gilt tooling to the panels and both boards. 2 vignettes, one hand-coloured and 24 hand-coloured plates. The plates are engraved by Tomkins from original designs by 'An Illustrious Personage, (Princess Elizabeth, daughter of George III). From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. This copy was purchased by Queen Mary in 1940. Slight fading to the spine which is still lovely and bright, otherwise this charming work is in pristine condition.

London: William Fearman, 1819. Half morocco, 11 inches tall. A splendid later binding by Zaehnsdorf with raised bands, gilt title and top edge. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. With 19 bright hand-coloured plates "By an artist Recently Returned from the Continent". Each view is most illuminating particularly the 'Interior of a Coffee House', 'The Morgue' with a young child come to have a look and 'The Gaming Table'. A fine clean copy of this scarce colour plate book. With the text in English and French.

A pristine copy in glorious full morocco by Riviere with gilt raised bands and wonderful gilt centre tools indicative of our heroes dissolute adventures in London, playing cards, Champagne bottles and dancers. The boards are framed within gilt corner tools and triple fillets. Gilt dentelles and top edge. Embellished with all 36 hand coloured aquatints from designs by Robert Cruikshank. This is a magnificent copy of this hilarious work from the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey.

Triple gilt fillets and corner tools frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Delicate vignettes and 14 hand tinted engravings by Alken. A smart copy of this charming work.

London: Bradbury, Agnew, and Co., c.1890. 2 volume set, 11 inches tall. A scarce deluxe quarto edition in half crushed morocco with raised bands, simple gilt panels and gilt top edge. Striking bookplate. With great comic illustrations by John Leech throughout, with hand coloured full page plates and vignettes on India paper. Small sealed split at the head of volume II, but still a fine set of this superb comic history.

London: Thomas McLean, 1819. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A beautifully bound set in full straight grain morocco with wide raised gilt bands and extra gilt panels. Gilt and blind rolls frame the boards. All edges gilt. With the armorial bookplate of Geoffrey Ecroyd. With 12 full page hand coloured aquatints. Foxing, but still a fine and very good looking set of this great 17th century satirical poem.
