This would appear to refer to General Robert Melvill, inventor of the carronade and Governor of Guadeloupe. A superb set of Bishop Horne's most celebrated work. There are signs of usage but the binding, other than very minor signs of rubbing, is in excellent condition.

A beautiful little devotional work in straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, finely gilt tooled panels, dentelles and all edges. The boards are framed with gilt and blind rolls and corner tooling. Watered silk endpapers. A neat ink inscription dated 1836 and a blind armorial stamp are found on the first blank. This Breviary of the Laity is used in Western Christianity for praying the canonical hours.
