London: Bell & Daldy, 1867. Half crushed morocco, 8 inches tall. A neat volume bound by Bayntun of Bath with raised bands, gilt framed panels, titles and all edges. Extracted from 'Aunt Judy's Magazine' volume IV, issue 20, pp 65-78 (blanks bound at rear). Predating the 1889 and 1893 editions. A charming fairy story, bound beautifully and illustrated with a frontispiece by Gilbert.

London: Macmillan, 1890. Half calf, 7.5 inches tall. A lovely binding with gilt raised bands, fine panels with 'country sport' centre tools and gilt top edge. Illustrated.

London: Rivington et al, 1817. Full calf, 5 inches tall. A delightful little binding with gilt raised bands, delicate gilt floral tooling to the panels and a gilt roll framing the boards. Engraved frontispiece and title page to Atala. some small abrasions to the lower board. Three popular exotic tales in a neat Regency binding.

London: Strahan and Woodfall, 1792. 6 volume set, 9.5 inches tall. An extraordinary 18th century binding in full sheep with blind bands, splendid triple labels and twin blind fillets framing the boards. With exceptional speckled pink lettering to the edges indicating that this set belonged to the Circuit Library of the Chester Crown Court. There are no other inscriptions and the text is very clean. There has been expert repair to the joints of two of the volumes. We can find no other examples of this style of lettering on the edges. A remarkable set of this scarce work.

Blank and half title removed. Light foxing. A scarce title, in the original Spanish, from Baudry's European Library.

London: Tipper, 1808. Full calf, 6.75 inches tall. A delightful and extraordinary work in fine full late 19th century calf by Morrell. With gilt raised bands, twin labels and floral gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and all edges. The scarce first edition of this collection of 13 irreverent ballads. Folding hand coloured frontispiece by Atkinson.

London: Griffin, 1860. Full red morocco, 9.25 inches. A sparkling mid Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and all edges gilt. With bookplate and an ink inscription on the first blank 'on leaving Eton' dated 1865. Text in double columns. A fine copy of these enchanting works.

London: William Pickering, 1833. Full morocco, 7.5 inches tall. A wonderful binding, almost certainly by Charles Lewis with gilt raised bands, superb gilt tooling to the panels, dentelles and all edges gilt. This volume, contains 'The Misfortunes of Arthur'; 'Downfall of Robert Earl of Huntingdon'; 'Death of Robert Earl of Huntingdon'; 'Woman is a Weathercock'; & 'Amends for Ladies'. It represents the Supplementary, XIIIth volume, of the set of 'Dodsley's Old Plays'.

London: Longmans et al, 1825. 2 volume set, 8.75 inches tall. A very handsome full calf by Hayday with gilt raised bands, triple labels and gilt tooling to the panels.

Bruxelles: Paul Lacomblez, 1914. Full morocco, 13 inches tall. A truly magnificent binding in pristine condition by Paul Affolter with gilt raised bands, superb gilt tooling with onlays to the panels and framing the boards. Wide gilt dentelles and watered silk doublures and free endpapers. Number 50 of 75 copies on 'japon imperial' with an extra suite of colour plates. In the original felt lined and leather trimmed slipcase also signed by Affolter. Based on an obscure 16th century romance, Coster's masterpiece tells of the adventures of a Flemish prankster, Thyl Ulenspiegel, during the wars of the Reformation in the Netherlands and became popular all over the world.

London & Paris: Boussod, Valadon & Co (GOUPIL), 1896. Full crushed morocco, 13 inches tall. A splendid binding by Ramage with gilt raised bands, crowned Tudor rose centre tools in the panels and on the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edge. Hand coloured frontispiece and 39 further full page plates illustrating the history of Elizabeth I. Some foxing to the frontispiece and title page and slight rubbing to the joints and edges.

London: Ryley, 1838. Full morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A very scarce item with exquisite hand coloured initials and full page 'illuminated' plates. The spine and boards are decorated with gilt 'Cathedral' tooling. All edges gilt. Some rubbing but a fine example of this choice edition.

London: John Murray, 1847. Full calf, 9.5 inches tall. A superb Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, red label and very fine extra gilt panels. Dentelles and all edges gilt.Foxed frontispiece and title page followed by a very clean double column text. Crabbe was hugely popular in his day and an influence on Byron, Austen and Wordsworth. Benjamin Britten's opera Peter Grimes is based on his great poem The Borough.

Paris: Crapelet, 1853. Quarter calf, 11 inches tall. An elegant binding with twin labels, gilt. With the 2 hand coloured engraved portraits. Second edition. With the letters in Tudor English and French. A fascinating and rare book in excellent condition.

Lausanne: Chez Marc-Mic. Bousquet & Comp, 1759. 2 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. Fine full speckled calf in pristine condition. With gilt raised bands, twin labels and floral gilt tooling to the panels. Woodcut ornaments. 13 full page engraved plates. A superb copy of a scarce edition.

London: John Churchill and W. Flexney, 1766. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. A simple yet elegant binding with gilt bands and titles. Armorial bookplate. A neat owner's name dated 1821 on the title page and the publisher and executor, John Churchill, has signed his name at the end of the work. A fine edition of the works of this celebrated satirist and poet.
