London: George Bell, 1885. 2 volumes,10 1/2 inches tall. A very neat set bound by Charles Lauriat of Boston with raised bands, wide and elaborate dentelles and all edges gilt. The spines are slightly faded. With wood engraved vignettes and 34 full page steel engravings in Sepia, as called for. A splendid set of these interesting and amusing works.

London: Longman and Rees, 1803. 3 volumes set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A handsome full Georgian 'Russia' calf with wide gilt bands, delicate gilt centre tools and twin fillets framing the boards. With the armorial bookplate of Lord Kinnaird of Rossie Priory. The binder has tooled III onto the spine of volume I, and I onto the spine of volume III. Engraved plates. Some rubbing and foxing to the preliminaries. A fine set of the first collected works of the tragic 18th century poet Thomas Chatterton, who after a life of poverty and genius, committed suicide in despair at the age of 17.

A very handsome Victorian half calf bound set in superb condition with gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. Armorial Bookplate. Originally published in 2 volumes this set comprises all 3 volumes published, 'from the Norman Conquest till the Death of Lord Tenterden'. A neat set of this classic history.

London: William Pickering, 1844. 3 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A smart, good looking full mid Victorian calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and gilt tooling to the panels. The boards are framed with double gilt and single blind fillets and the gilt embossed prize stamp of Rugby School on the upper boards. A little grubby and rubbed but overall a fine set. With 2 armorial bookplates and an ink inscription on each title page reading: '4th Comp (?) Prize H. R. Scott Xmas 1848 Rugby. A handsome set of this celebrated collection of essays by one of England's great poets.

London: Chatto & Windus, 1927. Full calf, 7 inches tall. A superb 20th century full calf by Bayntun with gilt raised bands and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. Label, twin gilt fillets to the boards, dentelles and all edges. Slight scratching to the boards. A splendid edition of some of the greatest short stories ever written.

With the binder's ticket of B. Scott of Carlisle. Speckled edges. Portrait. With the neat ink inscription 'M.D. Ballantine Sept 24 1808 on both first blanks.

London & Edinburgh: Chambers, c.1894. 2 volume set, 10 1/4 inches tall. Impressive late Victorian full calf by Relph with gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt and blind rolls frame the prize 'Elizabeth Regina' block. A neat ink previous owners name is written on the first blank. An entertaining work in which '...Anecdotes, Biography, and History, Curiosities of Literature and oddities of human Life and Character' are listed on each day of the calendar.

Paris: L. Carteret, 1910. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A superb full morocco binding by Bickers with gilt raised bands and very smart gilt pallets framing the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges. Original wraps bound in. With the bookplate of Alfred de Curzon, 19th century French painter. Slight foxing to the preliminaries. Madame Campan was in the service of Marie-Anoinette before and during the horrors of the French Revolution. This set is number 204 exemplaires sur papier velin du Marais. There are 63 very fine engravings by Leon Boisson from illustrations by LALAUZE. In the original French.

London: Routledge, c.1870. Half morocco, 9 inches tall. A handsome binding with gilt raised bands, titles, ornate gilt panels and gilt top edge. An armorial bookplate. This volume contains 8 of Caldecott's 'Shilling Toy Books', all with wonderful full page colour plates. There is some foxing, and minor stains and tears, some of which have been repaired crudely with tape. A lovely collection of these beautifully illustrated books in a fine binding.

A splendid little set of this classic history in late Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, elegant gilt tooling to the panels and twin labels. The boards have gilt and blind fillets framing the gilt prize blocks of St. Paul's school. All edges gilt. A prize bookplate on the front paste down endpapers and a further bookplate.
