A splendid early Victorian morocco binding with raised bands, elaborate gilt tooling to the panels, superb gilt and blind tooling to the boards, gilt dentelles and all edges. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst. embellished with 28 steel engravings including views of Spain, Malta and North Africa.

London: Rodwell and Martin, 1820. Full straight grain morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A glorious Regency binding with wide gilt raised bands and dense blind tooling to the panels. The boards are magnificently tooled in blind and gilt. All edges gilt. There is a tiny amount of worming effecting the gutter of the front endpaper and preliminaries. With 60 splendid views and vignette on the title page. A superb example of this scarce work.

Vellum blotter, 18 x 11.5 inches when closed, 36.5 x 11.5 inches when open. Beautifully made and signed by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, one of the finest firms of bookbinders at the time. Vellum with gilt rolls and ornate gilt centre tools. V.C on the left hand 'panel', A.C on the right. In remarkably fine condition (with no ink stains!).

London: Fisher, (1845). Full crushed morocco, 11 inches tall. Beautifully bound by Wright, one of the most accomplished London firms of the period. With gilt raised bands, exceptional gilt floral tooling to the panels and a wide gilt roll framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Embellished with 63 engraved plates. With the armorial bookplate of Earl Brownlow of Belton House. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst.

Londres: (Cazin), 1785. 2 volume set, 5.25 inches tall. A fabulous little full morocco set of the highest quality by the great Parisian binder Paul Charles Allo. One of the celebrated editions of Cazin. With the red leather bookplate of Leon Rattier. A superb example of this very scarce edition in pristine condition.

London: Virtue, 1836. Full straight grain morocco, 11 inches tall. A fabulously bound set with extraordinary gilt and white metal tooled spine and boards.the elaborate 'cathedral' design on all four boards is made up from individual tooling, as is the superb tooling on the spines. All edges gilt. Illustrated with 2 engraved titles and 106 full page engraved views and I folding map. Some foxing to the plates and slight fading to the spine, but still a fine and spectacular set.

Paris: Compagnie des Libraires, 1746. 3 volume set, 6.75 inches tall. A particularly beautifully bound set with gilt bands, twin labels and fine gilt tooling to the panels.

Paris: Chez Prault, 1783. Full 18th century mottled calf, 8 inches tall. A fine copy of this celebrated comedy with gilt bands, label and delicate gilt tooling on the panels.

Paris: Ladvocat, Librairie, Palais Royal, 1824. 10 volume set bound in 5, 6.75 inches tall. A remarkable binding in marbled calf with gilt bands, titles and panels. With a previous owner's name, Mr. Oliver, on the upper boards.

London: Printed for Private Subscription & Circulation, 1887. Full vellum, 7 inches tall. Simple gilt tooling to the spine and boards. Top edge gilt. No 15 of a limited edition of only 250 copies.The title page states: '...now first completely done into English the stories which it has hitherto been the custom to censure emasculate or omit altogether and which are now presented in their entirety'.

With gilt raised bands, title and most attractive gilt tooling to the panels framing a centre tool representing a jug of ale. Top edge gilt. Slight rubbing and scuffing.With the remarkable and macabre bookplate of George Fales Barker.

Slight worming to the lower board of volumee 1. Fine engraved title page.With the bookplate of the Chateau de Cirey in each volume.

Paris: Desaint & Saillant, 1764. 5 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. Full mottled calf with gilt bands, twin labels and fine gilt tooling to the panels. With the bookplate of the Chateau de Cirey over defaced earlier bookplates in each volume. Woodcut ornaments. A very fine set.

London: Parker, 1856. Half calf, 6.5 inches tall. An elegant half calf binding with twin labels, gilt raised bands and fine gilt panels. The armorial bookplate of Lord Manning. This interesting volume contains the famous ballads from the end of the 14th century to the beginning of the 17th century including, Robin Hood, Chevy Chase, King Arthur's Death, Lady Greensleeves and Many others. A fine copy.

London: Parker, 1855. Half calf, 6.5 inches tall. An exceptionally elegant volume with twin labels, gilt raised bands and fine floral gilt panels. An interesting volume containing a collection of songs from the earliest English dramatists, including Shakespeare, and ending with Sheridan. In fine condition.

London: 1757. 3 volume set, 6.75 inches tall. Superb full calf bindings of the period with gilt bands, twin labels and delightful floral tooling to the panels. The binding is in splendid condition other than some loss to the headcap of volume 1. The text and all the plates, some folding, are all particularly clean. This interesing edition has the text in both English and French and has corresponding English and French title pages. Although the title page states that the book was published in London, I would assume it was actually printed on the Continent. A fine set.

Armorial bookplate and neat signature at the head of the title page. A splendid collection of the works of the most famous poets with finely engraved vignettes by the popular artists of the day.
