London: T. Cadell and W. Davies, 1813-16. 5 volumes, 8 1/2 inches tall. A very finely bound set in full Regency 'Russia' calf with twin gilt raised bands and superb gilt and blind tooling to the panels and boards, so typical of the period. The celebrated image by Joshua Reynolds serves as frontispiece, which is offset onto the title page, otherwise a fabulous set in pristine condition of possibly the greatest of all biographies.

London: The Nonesuch Press, 1925. 3 volume set, 11 inches tall. A rather spectacular full calf executed shortly after the date of publication replacing the rather drab quarter vellum, which is bound in. With gilt raised bands, labels, fine and ornate gilt tooling to the panels and triple gilt fillets framing a 'Cambridge Panel' on the boards. Gilt top edges, the remainder deckled. Minor rubbing and marking. Edited by Geoffrey Keynes. Though neglected in his life time he has become probably the most influential English romantic poets. Blake's poetry, painting and printmaking exert a powerful influence to the present day.

London: James S. Virtue, c.1865. 2 volume set, 14 inches tall. A magnificent and remarkably bright set with raised gilt bands and blind and gilt tooling to the panels and boards, dentelles and all edges. The engraved family genealogical leaves are untouched. 36 full page engraved plates, of which four are by John Martin.

London: Richard Bentley, 1837-45. 8vo (9½" tall). Superb full red crushed morocco, by TOUT. Gilt raised bands and pallets, fine gilt tooling to panels. Boards framed with gilt floral corner tool. Gilt doublures with floral patterned endpapers. Top edge gilt. Slightly foxed. Armorial bookplate. Original issues of Bentley's Magazine. Bound with special title page, contents and a preface dated 1889 by the collector John Waugh. Autograph letter in black ink bound in, dated "Sept. 2" [1844], 4 pages.

London: Smith, Elder, & Co., 1901. 2 volumes bound in 1, 7 3/4 inches tall. A very fine full crushed morocco binding for Hatchards with two gilt raised band and the panels and boards with beautiful gilt tooled images from 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin'. These incorporate bells and pomegranates, rats and magic pipe. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Portraits. Some rubbing but still a fine and bright copy of these great Victorian poems.

London: Philip Allan & Co., 1926. Full morocco, 8 inches tall. A beautiful full terracotta crushed morocco binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe with raised bands and simple gilt and blind tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With dark blue and gold endpapers. Housed in a decorative orange and white paper covered slipcase. Second Impression. With 12 extraordinary full page illustrations by John Kettlewell. Written by Burton, the Kasidah is a distillation of Sufi thought in the poetic idiom of that Persian mystical tradition. A pristine copy.

London: Akerman (sic) et al., 1822. 2 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. Superb later crushed morocco by Bayntun with gilt raised bands, gilt panels, framed boards, dentelles and all edges. With 12 hand coloured aquatints. A pristine copy of this great mock heroic Civil War poem through the story of Sir Hudibras and his comic adventures.

London: John Murray, 1855-56. 6 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A classic Victorian full calf binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels and extra gilt panels. Foxing to the preliminaries, otherwise clean. With the neat owner's signature 'Horace J. Smith' on the reverse of the free endpaper. A splendid set of the works of this great English Romantic poet.

Edinburgh: Printed by Hunter Blair and M.S. Bruce, 1830. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall in sparkling William IV full straight grain morocco by J. Shearer of Stirling. With gilt raised bands and very ornate and unusual gilt tooling to the panels. A series of gilt fillets and rolls frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. There is a neat ink inscription dated 1844 on the first blank. The text block and binding are exceptionally clean and bright.

Paris: Ernest Bourdin, (1842). Full calf, 10.5 inches tall. Superb cat's paw calf bound by Clarke & Bedford, one of the best firms of binders in London with gilt raised bands and splendid floral gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and all edges gilt. Engraved vignettes and full page plates throughout. Armorial bookplate. In the original French.

London: T. Cadell, 1788. 4 volume set, 8.75 inches tall. A wonderful full vellum, bound by Christian Kalthoeber, one of the greatest bookbinders of the period, and with his ticket. With delightful twin blue titles edged with several ornate pallets. Double fillets frame the boards. Yellow edges. There has been some loss to the foot of the fourth volume due to ancient water damage. This has not affected the text nor taken away the overall splendid look of the set.

London: Cassell,Petter & Galpin, c.1880. 2 volumes, 13 inches tall. A splendid example of the work of Hammond, a similar work by him is found in the British Library collection of British Bookbindings. With deep gilt raised bands, gilt on green calf inlays in the panels and on the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Further volumes of Illustrated Travels were published, on offer here are the first 2 volumes in a Victorian binding of the highest quality.

London: James Burns, (1843). 2 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. A classic full Victorian calf by Parker, with gilt raised bands, twin labels, fine gilt tooling to the panels and twin labels. With a prize block on the boards and a neat ink prize inscription to the reverse of the front end paper in volume 1. Illustrated with engraved vignettes. Volume II states in the preface that as well as several...tales of the "Thousand-and-one-Nights".... 'four tales are given, for the first time in this country, from the German of Grimm (Jalaladdeen, Haschem, the To Talismans, and Jussuf)'. A superb little set of a very scarce work.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1908. Full Morocco, 8 1/2 inches high. A stunning binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, elaborate gilt paneling to the boards, dentelles and all edges. A wonderful copy, printed on handmade paper, of these potted biographies by Brantôme 1540-1614. celebrated adventurer and historian.

London: Longman et al., 1820. 2 volume set, 5 3/4 inches tall. A single volume Bible bound in 2 in delightful Regency straight grain morocco. With gilt raised bands, gilt and blind tooling, so typical of the period, to the panels and a wide gilt roll and blind fillet framing the boards. All edges gilt. A beautiful little Bible in pristine condition.

London: Richard Bentley, 1840, 1842 & 1847. 3 volume set, 8 inches tall. A very fine full crushed morocco by Riviere with gilt raised bands and very fine gilt tooling around a comic centre tool to the panels. The boards are framed within a triple gilt fillet. Gilt dentelles and top edges. With red and black title pages, 17 etched plates by Cruikshank and Leech and 2 engraved portraits. The original cloth covers and spines bound in. A nasty scuff on the fore corner of the 3rd series but still a super set of first editions of this fantastical work.

Paris: Baudry's European Library, 1835. Full calf, 10.5 inches tall. A rather extraordinary and most pleasing binding with wide gilt raised bands and elaborate gilt and blind tooling to the panels and boards. With gilt dentelles and all edges. This is Baudry's first single volume edition with notes and a Life of Byron by John Galt. Slight nick to the tailcap. Double column. A splendid example of this scarce edition.

Londres: (Cazin), 1785. 2 volume set, 5.25 inches tall. A fabulous little full morocco set of the highest quality by the great Parisian binder Paul Charles Allo. One of the celebrated editions of Cazin. With the red leather bookplate of Leon Rattier. A superb example of this very scarce edition in pristine condition.

London: John Murray, 1827. 6 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A delightful set in full Georgian straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooling to the panels, blind and gilt rolls and fillets framing the boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. The armorial bookplate of The Honourable Henry Ayers. There is a shelf reference at the head of the title pages, slight rubbing and the a warping of vol. VI indicating that the set has been tied up with string probably for an auction lot. A very pretty set.

Newcastle: Printed by Hodgson, For Emerson Charnley, Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, 1820. Full calf, 8 1/2 inches tall. A fine Regency full calf with wide gilt raised bands and rather wonderful gilt tooling to the panels around a peacock, A series of gilt and blind fillets frame dense blind 'basket weave' tooling on the boards. Engraved portrait, title page and more than 360 vignettes cuts illustrating the charming fables. From the library of Lord Kinnaird of Rossie Priory. A little foxing, specifically to the portrait, otherwise a superb copy.
