With gilt raised bands, triple labels and wonderful gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges. From the library of Alfred de Rothschild but without his bookplate. Slight rubbing and light foxing, overall fine. This Deluxe edition was limited to 200 copies of which this is number 152. The introduction is printed on heavy hand-made paper and is deckled, the leaves of plates and their descriptions are trimmed. With gilt raised bands, triple labels and wonderful gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges. From the library of Alfred de Rothschild but without his bookplate. Slight rubbing and light foxing, overall fine. This Deluxe edition was limited to 200 copies of which this is number 152. The introduction is printed on heavy hand-made paper and is deckled, the leaves of plates and their descriptions are trimmed. The volumes are arranged thus: Volume I, with 22 plates, is devoted to the reign of Louis XIV, Volume II, with 71 plates to the Regency and the reign of Louis XV, Volume III, with 69 plates to the reign of Louis XVI. Making a total of 162 plates. A sumptuous record of the Golden Age of French furniture when some of the finest and most refined pieces were ever created, in a fabulous binding from the library of a great connoisseur. A rare set of this great edition.

    Edinburgh: Archibald Constable and Company, 1822-24. 26 volumes (Complete 6th Edition in 20 volumes with the Supplementary edition in 6 volumes), 11 inches tall. A superb full diced calf with gilt raised bands and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. The diced boards are framed within twin gilt fillets. There is blotchiness to the panels of the first 20 volumes, some foxing and browning of leaves, a small amount of ancient superficial loss to long defunct insects, there is also a slight musty smell but the vast majority of plates and leaves are clean and there is no splitting. The first 20 volumes contain all 581 numbered engraved full page plates. The Supplement appears to lack I plate…

Gilt fillets, and superb gilt tooling with corner devices frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With the bookplates of William Strahan and Alfred de Rothschild. This celebrated edition has the plates in 2 states, with the proofs laid down on india paper. Slight foxing but overall a fine set of this great edition.
