Albany; Joel Munsell, 1867. Full vellum, 8 1/2 inches tall. A splendid full Victorian full vellum by Zaehnsdorf with a crest shaped label and delicate gilt tooling to the smooth spine. A gilt fillet frames the boards. With gilt dentelles and all edges. Foxing to the preliminaries, then clean. Boards slightly splayed. With the armorial bookplate of William Waldorf, Viscount Astor of Hever Castle. Baroness von Riedesel's husband commanded the Brunswick forces with the British Army. This volume contains her Memoirs of this period, including her family's life as prisoners of war.

London: Longman et al., 1830-1832. 2 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. Exquisite little set with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and triple labels. Note the spectacular volume label. The tree calf boards are framed within an ornate floral gilt roll. Each title page has an engraved vignette. This 2 volume set constituted the first part of 'The History of the Western World' But is complete in itself. From the library of Edward Nicholas Hurt, most of whose books were of this highest quality.

London: Arthur Hall, 1853. 3 volume set, 8 inches tall. A neat Mid-Victorian half calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and gilt centre tool to the panels. Engraved frontispieces and title pages. A previous owner, Abraham Dawson(?), has left his name, dated 1862, on the second title page, and has left a neat manuscript list of contents on the reverse of the title pages and a page number on the engraved title page of volume 1.

Folding map, 58 full page tinted wood cuts and 3 plates of ancient Indian music. An ink inscription on the first blank on 'leaving Eton' dated 1867. A superb set of this profusely illustrated work.

Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1884. 2 volume set, 11 inches tall. An elegant full crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands and the panels and boards framed with gilt pallets and rolls. Wide gilt dentelles and gilt top edges. Armorial bookplates. 11 Japan mounted proofs and hundreds of woodcut illustrations throughout.

Halifax: William Milner, 1844. Full morocco, 5.5 inches tall. A superb gilt embossed binding with gilt panels, boards and titles. All edges gilt. Portrait, engraved title page and 2 folding maps. Ink inscription on free endpaper dated Xmas, 1845.
