London: Macmillan, 1897. Full calf, 6.5 inches tall. A delightful full calf binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands, delicate gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Watered silk endpapers. A finely printed and beautifully bound copy of this 12th or 13th century medieval French love story.

Oxonii [Oxford]: Impensis Bliss et Baxter, 1812. Full morocco, 4.25 inches tall. A superb little binding with a gilt tooled smooth spine with flourishes surrounding the author's name within a gilt cartouche. The boards are framed within gilt and blind fillets. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Extra illustrated with a portrait of Anacreon following the title page. Ownership inscription of John Bullock (1831) and bookplate of Maurice Baring. A charming little edition of a selection of the lyric work of the celebrated Greek lyric poet, notable for his drinking songs and erotic poems.

London: Longman et al, 1822. 2 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. A splendid Georgian full diced calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate floral gilt tooling to the panels. Armorial bookplate and early ink inscription at head of the title page. Foxing to, and offsetting from the 2 engraved frontispieces. Lord Macaulay was a great admirer of Lucy Aikin and singled out this title for especial praise.

Gotha: Chez Justus Perthes,1822. Full morocco, 4 1/2 inches tall. A delightful little almanach in full straight grain morocco with gilt bands, three different starburst centre tools and all edges gilt. Original orange paper wrappers bound in. Decorated with a frontispiece and 10 plates, some folding. A fascinating volume in an unusually handsome binding. In French.

London: De La Rue & Co, c. 1840. Full calf, 8.5 inches tall. A exquisite embossed calf by De La Rue with gilt highlights, dentelles and all edges. Watered silk endpapers. There are a few competent drawings, watercolours and text and the evidence of the loss of a couple of leaves. 32 blank leaves remain, some with heavily embossed borders.

Paris: E. Houndaille, 1839. 2 volume set, 10 inches tall. A very finely gilt tooled half calf with wide gilt raised bands and extra gilt panels. Prefaced with an historical essay by M. & Mme Guizot. Full page engraved plates by Gigoux. Some foxing but overall a fine set of this great 12th century correspondence. In the original French.

Paris: Bibliotheque des Curieux, (1910). Half morocco, 6 inches tall. A very curious item in a curious binding with gilt raised bands, raised head and tail and ornate gilt tooling to the spine. Gilt top edge. One of 500 copies. Original wrappers bound in. The tale of the seduction of a novice by a priest.

London: Smith, Elder & Co, 1829. Full calf, 5.75 inches tall. A wonderful little embossed calf binding with ornate blind tooled calf on the spine with gilt titles and on the boards framing gilt lyres. All edges gilt. An engraved presentation plate and 12 further fine engravings. Including 4 sonnets by John Clare.

London: Cadell, 1796. Full calf, 6 inches tall. A beautiful little late 18th century speckled calf with gilt bands, twin labels and delightful gilt tooling to the panels. Decorated with 2 engraved plates.

London: John Sharpe, 1829. Full crushed morocco, 8 inches tall. A delightful binding with wide gilt raised bands, dense gilt tooling to the panels, fine gilt tooling framing the boards and all edges gilt. 2 engraving presentation pages (both blank), Engraved portrait, engraved title page and a further 16 full page engraved plates. An interesting anthology including contributions by John Clare, Lord Byron and Robert Southey. A neat ink owners name on the title page.

London: Richd. Phillips, 1803. 2 volume set, 6 1/4 inches tall. A handsome little Georgian half morocco with gilt bands and blue speckled edges. Decorated with 3 engraved portraits, a view of Addison's House at Bilton and 7 engraved letters.

London: W. Strange, 1847. Full calf, 2.5 inches tall. Charming tiny 'wallet' binding, somewhat rubbed but with no loss or splitting. Engraved title page and 3 full page illustrations. With vital information on the days of each month, London bankers, the language of flowers and the fashionable ballroom dances, amongst other subjects.

London: The Religious Tract Society, c.1860. Half morocco, 6.5 inches tall. A splendid little mid-Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, delicate gilt pallets and floral centre tools. Speckled pink edges. Cautionary tales for young protestants.
