A scarce and curious edition 'Freed from all objectionable matter, and altogether free from notes' allowing it to be read aloud! 2 volumes, comprising 'Cymbeline'; 'Merchant of Venice', 'As You Like It'; 'King Lear'; 'Much Ado About Nothing'; 'Romeo And Juliet'; Twelfth Night'; 'King John'. Foxing to the preliminaries and a small stain in the top corner affecting the last two plays not touching the text.

London: Joseph Masters, 1869. Full morocco, 5 inches tall. A delightful little binding with two gilt raised bands, either end of the title and name, presumably of the original owner. There is dense and fine gilt tooling to the spine at the head and tail. The boards are framed with triple fillets and corner tools. GIlt dentelles and all edges.

Edinburgh: Tait et al., 1823. Half calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A handsome Georgian half 'Russia' calf with gilt bands and fine centre tools and title. Engraved portrait and vignette on title page. Delicate joints but still firm.

Edinburgh: Peter Hill, 1809. Full calf, 8.5 inches tall. An unusual mottled calf binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels and very fine and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. With the book plate of 'Fasque', the family seat of the Gladstones and where Queen Victoria's Prime Minister, William Ewart Gladstone, spent much of his childhood. Slightly rubbed.

Paris: Gruel: Engelmann, 1858. Full morocco, 6.5 inches tall. A very simple binding with raised bands and all edges gilt. Vellum endpapers not pasted down. Each page is finely decorated with elaborate borders.

London: Suttaby, 1821; Suttaby, 1821; Suttaby, 1826; Suttaby, 1820. Full calf, 5 inches tall. A delightful little Georgian binding with gilt raised bands, gilt tooled panels and boards. Each title is separately paginated and has its own frontispiece.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1911. Half morocco, 6.5 inches tall. Elegantly, yet simply, bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe with raised bands and gilt titles and top edge. Finely printed on hand made paper with deckled edges. From 'The Royal Library Belles Lettres series'. Previous owners name on first blank. Slight surface loss to the charming patterned paper boards.

Paris: Artheme Fayard, c.1910. Half vellum, 9.5 inches tall. Vellum spine and tips with gilt tooling and top edge. An amusingly illustrated edition in fine condition.

Paris: Didot, 1791. Full tree calf, 4.75 inches tall. Delightful 18th century binding with gilt bands and red label. Speckled edges.

London: Alexander Moring, The De La More Press, 1925. Half morocco, 8 inches tall. A delightful and simple binding with 2 raised bands, gilt title and gilt top edge. Embellished with 12 illustrations by Blanche MacManus.

London: Bohn, 1853. Full morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A most sumptious binding from the early Victorian period with gilt raised bands, dense gilt tooled panels. finely gilt boards, dentelles and all edges. A anthology of verse by the greatest British poets of the period, illustrated by some of the most illustrious artists. As is usually the case with this edition there is foxing, some severe, throughout.

London: Darton and Clark, 1844. Half morocco, 6 inches tall. Charming little Annual, 'A Christmas and New Year's Present' for young people handsomely bound in a fine half morocco. Lithographic title page and frontispiece and vignettes throughout.
