A splendid set of the Works complete in 8 volumes and the Life complete in 2 volumes. There is some minor rubbing and the engraved frontispiece of the Life is offset, otherwise a clean and pristine set of this great history.

A very clean copy of the second edition of this travelogue by the writer and art critic best known for his 'Gothic Novel' "Vathek".

Two works by Voltaire, done into English, in a superb little binding.

With engraved titles and portraits throughout. Housed in an original travelling case resembling calf folios stacked dos-a-dos. The 53 consecutive volumes eventually were extended to 109 volumes (see our complete set) but as there is no indication of a volume number on the case it would seem that this was all that the original owner possessed. The volumes are in excellent condition the case itself, still with its original watered silk lining, is in good solid condition but has some scuffing, rubbing and worm holed from a long defunct insect. A remarkable survival.

A handsome Victorian binding by Murphy of Liverpool, with gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooling incorporating shamrocks in the panels and gilt top edge. With an hilarious hand-coloured frontispiece and 18 further outrageous plates by, amongst others, Henry Alken and William Heath. The binding is slightly faded, but still bright. There is some foxing, occasional creasing and slight grubbiness but overall an unusually good example of this scarce work in the style of Pierce Egan.
