The Priest to the Altar or Aids to the Devout Celebration of Holy Communion chiefly after the Ancient English Use of Sarum.

A spectacular full morocco binding with gilt raised bands, elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. Ornate gilt tooling with striking onlays to the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. There are some heavy fingermarks effecting a dozen leaves of the 'Holy Communion' and a very little rubbing, otherwise a fine and superb example of this work. 'The Use of Sarum' or 'Sarum Rite' is the liturgical use of the Latin rites of Salisbury Cathedral in use from the eleventh century until the English Reformation. The 'Sarum Rite' is authorized for liturgical use by the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, as well as the Anglican Communion. It was revived with the Anglican Communion in the late 19th and 20th centuries by the Anglo-Catholic Oxford Movement in the Church of England, finding a traditional liturgy "English" rather than "Roman".
