London: The Company of Stationers, 1810 and 1825. Full morocco, 8 1/2 inches tall. An exquisite and unique pair of devotional works bearing the bookplates and gilt stamp on the upper boards of Nicholas Robinson, Lord Mayor of Liverpool in 1828-1829. On his becoming Bailiff of Liverpool in 1818 he had the work bound in full black straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands and extra gilt panels. A sequence of gilt and blind rolls and fillets frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. On becoming Mayor of Liverpool in 1828 he had the same work bound in an even more sumptuous binding of full red straight grain morocco. This volume is beautiful, with gilt raised bands and very fine and dense gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt and blind tools with flamboyant corner tooling frames the boards. Gilt dentelles with a superb vine roll and watered silk doublures and free end 'paper'.
