COMPLETE WITH INDEXES AND ATLAS IN SUPERB VICTORIAN FULL CALF

History of Europe.

Edinburgh & London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1859-1860. 24 volume set, 9 inches tall. Superb Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. With the armorial bookplate of Graham Hamilton Greenwell of Marden Park. Alison's great history consists of volume 1-XIV, covering the 'Commencement of the French Revolution (in 1789) to the Restoration of the Bourbons in 1815', including an index. The work was then continued 'From the Fall of Napoleon in 1815 to the Accession of Louis Napoleon in 1852', these are volumes I-VIII, with a further separate index, volume IX. Frequently the Atlas volume, with 108 maps in missing but here it exists as a bound book box, 12 inches tall bound in half calf, with all maps complete. The maps and plans are finished by hand in colour. There is some speckling to the boards and a little foxing to the preliminaries, but overall in fine condition with no splitting or loss. A magnificent complete set of this great work in its best edition, the enlarged revised edition with portraits.
