Everybody's Pepys. The Diary of Samuel Pepys 1660-1669.
London G. Bell, 1927. Full morocco, 7 1/2 inches tall. A beautiful full mosaic binding by Riviere, in the style of Kelliegram. With gilt raised bands and finely gilt framed panels with 'Regency' centre tools. The boards have highly ornate gilt boarders framing a delightful image of Samuel Pepys holding a candle and yawning presumably rising from or retiring to bed, reminding us of the intimacy of his diaries. The 'mosaic' image of Pepys is created in blue, maroon, orange, yellow, off white and purple with a gilt flame. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Illustrations throughout by Ernest H. Shepard. The diaries are abridges and edited by O.F.Morshead. A wonderful copy of the most famous Diary in the history of literature.
