The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent.

Canterbury: Printed by W. Bristow, on the Parade, 1797-1801. 13 volume set, the text being in 12 volumes, 8 1/4 inches tall, the atlas volume being 11 1/2 inches tall. The Second, Improved and Corrected edition. A unique set complete with an atlas volume containing the 35 folding Kent maps from the text all lined backed and extra-illustrated with 8 celebrated Kent maps, all paper backed, dating back as far as 1605. The text volumes contain the 32 engraved plates and 49 engraved vignettes called for. The superb bindings are later speckled half calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and gilt fillets. Yellow edges. The paste down endpaper of the first volume has a pencil inscription: 'from Chislett Park 1883 Maps bound separately in Quarto' and, in ink , a previous owners name and address dating to 1921. Rubbing and minor splitting, especially to the atlas volume, but still a firm, solid and very attractive set of this great history of Kent.
