EARLY EDITION IN FINE FULL DICED REGENCY CALF BINDING

Lalla Rookh, an Oriental Romance.

London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, 1817. Full calf, 8 3/4 inches tall. A fine Regency full diced calf with inked bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and label. A wide gilt roll and fillet frame the diced boards. A faint neat ink inscription "Eliza Smith" is at the head of the title page. The Irish poet, Thomas Moore, wrote this poem describing the life of the daughter of a Mughal Emperor in 1817, the same year as the publication of this edition and it was to become hugely popular in the Regency period.
