The Works of Henry Fielding, Esq; with The Life of the Author.

London: Millar, 1766. 12 volume set, 7 inches tall. A fine full calf with raised bands, bright red labels and gilt pallets and volume number to the panels. Pink speckled edges. The armorial bookplate of Merthyr Guest, Canford Manor, Dorset, superimposed on an earlier bookplate. Apart from minor marks and stains this set is an exceptional survival in this condition, with no splitting or loss. Together with Samuel Richardson, Henry fielding is considered the father of the English Novel. With satire and earthy humour his great 18th century novels include Tom Jones, Joseph Andrews and Jonathan Wild.
