Some Account of the Worshipful Company of Grocers of the City of London.

London, privately printed, 1869. Full crushed morocco, 11 inches tall. A spectacular binding by Holloway with gilt raised bands and fine gilt tooling to the panels. The boards have gilt tooling of the highest quality framing the heraldic crest of the company. Gilt dentelles and all edges. The Grocers is one of London's Great Twelve City Livery Companies. The company was founded in the 14th century by members of the Guild of Pepperers, dating from 1180. The Company maintained standards of purity of spices and for the setting of weights and measures. Its members included London's pharmacists who separated forming the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries in 1617. Beautifully printed on heavy hand made paper, and bound to the highest specifications, a tall and enlarged edition of this interesting history.
