48 volumes, 6.5 - 9 inches tall. An extraordinary and unique collection of first editions by Charles Kingsley, the hugely influential Victorian Novelist, Historian and Social Reformer. The collection is uniformly bound in a Victorian half morocco by Birdsall with gilt raised bands, pallets, labels and elegant floral tooling to the spines. Top edges gilt. Some foxing, mostly confined to the preliminaries. With the armorial bookplate of Sir George John Armytage of Kirklees Park. A remarkable and most attractive collection of these titles, many of the earliest titles of which are almost unobtainable.
