Half calf, 7 inches tall. A charming little binding by Atkinson of York and with their binder's ticket. With wide gilt raised bands, label and elegant gilt tooling to the panels. Slight foxing and rubbing. Armorial bookplate and devise of N.Norcliffe of Langton Hall on the rather magnificent tail label. The first edition in book form, having first been published in instalments in Blackwood's Magazine. An entertaining anecdotal tale of a junior officer in the later stages of the Peninsular War, commencing with his embarkation from Dover.
