Full morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A remarkable binding with gilt raised bands, very finely gilt tooled panels and boards with superbly decorated calf onlays. With the gilt prize block of Radley College, Gilt dentelles and all edges. Ink prize inscription dated 1866 on the first blank. With 81 delightful colour illustrations by Doyle which marked a landmark as the first book with original work printed in colour expressly designed for the original text (Muir). Slight foxing to the preliminaries and a slight stain to the top corner of the first few leaves but still a stunning copy of this celebrated volume.
