COXE, Tench ~ A brief examination of Lord Sheffield’s observations on the commerce of the United States of America : in seven numbers : with two supplementary notes on American manufactures.
Philadelphia: The Press of M. Carey, 1791
Half calf, 7.5 inches tall. An exceptionally fine example of this rare first edition. A near contemporary binding with raised bands, olive title and simple pallets to the panels. The title label is titled 'Comme of Nord Americ' suggesting a French or, more likely in terms of style, a German binder, possibly working in Philadelphia. Bookplate. Tench Coxe was an American political economist who was a proponent of industrialization during the early years of the United States. He could be described as the father of the American cotton industry.
