2 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. An exceptionally good looking early Victorian full calf set with wide gilt raised bands, twin labels and dense gilt tooling to the panels. The boards have a series of blind and elaborately gilt panels. With engraved portraits to both volumes, 10 engraved plates, 2 engraved folding plans and an engraved folding map. A neat ink inscription is found on the first blank 'on leaving Eton' in 1842 from Lords Burghley and Cecil to John Wolley, the famous English naturalist and ornithologist.
