A handsome Victorian binding by Hayday, exquisitely illustrated throughout by Daniel Maclise, with an allegorical frontispiece plate, and each page of verse bordered with delicate foliage and ornate figures. Thomas Moore was a musician as well as his better known vocation as a poet, and was made national lyricist of Ireland following the highly successful publication of Irish Melodies (1807-35).
