WORKS OF GEORGE CRABBE
CRABBE, The Rev. George.
The Works of the Rev. George Crabbe. In five volumes.
London: John Murray, 1823.
5 vols., 8vo (8½" tall). Half calf by JAMES CONDIE. Twin burgundy labels, gilt bands with fine gilt tooling to panels. Marbled boards and edges. Neat contemporary inscription to front endpaper. Boards somewhat worn.
A very pretty provincial binding, with the binder's ticket of James Condie of Paisley. Although less known today, Crabbe was an immensely popular poet and writer in his time. His work was admired by writers including Bryon, Scott and Wordsworth, and Jane Austen even said that she could fancy being Mrs. Crabbe.
