A fine late eighteenth century binding in full tree calf, with finely engraved frontispiece plates by Neagle, Heath and Fittler. First published in 1769, Robertson's History of Charles V was a tremendous success, earning him the handsome sum of £4,500. The work also established his reputation in Europe and it was later translated into French.
