6 vols., 12mo (6½" tall). Full blue morocco by Hering. Superb set with wide floral gilt raised band, framed panels, titles, dentelles and all edges.
A very pretty set by Hering, a fine example of this famous binder's work. Metastasio was a celebrated Italian poet and librettist in the eighteenth century. His reputation was established by his masque The Garden of Hesperides and he went on to write libretti for 27 operas including Mozart's Clemenza di Tito. His career flourished under the patronage of the Emperor of Austria and he was appointed Poet Laureate to the imperial court in 1729.
