STRICKLAND'S QUEENS OF ENGLAND IN A DELUXE BINDING BY RAMAGE
London: Eveleigh Nash, 1905.
15 vols. (of 16), 8vo (8.25 x 6 inches). Superb full
kingfisher blue crushed morocco, by RAMAGE, London.
Gilt raised bands with gilt crown centre tools. Gilt
and blind rules, with gilt crown centre tools framing
boards. Ornate gilt dentelles, top edges gilt. Marbled
endpapers. Armorial bookplates of Lord Brocket and Sir
Charles Nall-Cain. Illustrated with fine engraved
plates, some in colour and gilt. A very handsome set,
though sadly not complete.
LIMITED EDITION, one of 250 copies. A very luxurious
set bound by Ramage, one of the top London binderies.
Strickland's popular account of the Queens of England
is a classic work on the female monarch. Tremendously
successful and impressively broad in scale, the work
was in fact jointly written with Agnes' sister
Elizabeth, who shunned public recognition. Lacks volume 14.
