century full tree calf by MORRELL, London, with superb
triple red labels, extra gilt tooling to outer panels
and armorial centre tools to two panels, decorative
gilt border framing both boards, dentelles and all
edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Illustrated with superb
frontispiece portrait after G. Kneller and five
engraved plates. A superb and very luxurious set.
Late seventeenth-century playwright and poet, William
Congreve wrote a number of hugely successful works
including his highly original play, The Old Batchelor,
as well as Love for Love, The Mourning Bride and The
Way of the World. This is a particularly attractive
edition of his collected works printed by the
celebrated printer John Baskerville, with large type,
wide margins, and fine engraved plates.
