Celebrated Boston historian and Hispanist, Hickling
produced a number of important historical works,
including Conquest of Peru (1847), History of the
Conquest of Mexico (1843) and. Much of Prescott's work
was based on rigorous use of previously unpublished
original sources, presented in a lively and vivid
writing style. The quality of his research and writing
earned him the reputation as one of the greatest
American historians of his day.
