12mo (6½" tall). Full calf, with gilt raised bands on
spine and twin tan and red labels. Very pretty gilt
rolls framing Grecian lyres on panels, gilt and blind
rolls to boards. Triple gilt ruled dentelles, all
edges gilt. Slightly worn at extremities. Fine
engraved plates after Richard Westall and illustrated
throughout with woodcut head- and tail- pieces.
Occasional spotting. Armorial bookplate to front
pastedown. Neat name in a contemporary hand facing the
half- title.
Rogers was a well known man of letters in early
nineteenth century England and he was offered, but
declined, laureateship in 1850. Pleasures of Memory,
Jacqueline and Italy are amongst his most popular works.
