Thomas Carlyle's Collected Works. Library edition.

COLLECTED WORKS, LIBRARY EDITION
London: Chapman and Hall, [c.1870].
34 vols., 8vo (9.5 x 6.5 inches). Contemporary half calf, with twin tan and black labels, gilt raised bands, detailed gilt tooling to panels, marbled boards, edges and endpapers. Engraved frontispiece portraits. Bookplate. A fine set.
A very attractive set, complete with three additional volumes of Carlyle's translations from the German and one further index volume. Carlyle's Collected Works confirmed his reputation as one of the great writers of the period.
