KINGLAKE, Alexander William.

The Invasion of The Crimea: Its Origin, And An Account of Its Progress Down To The Death of Lord Raglan. Fourth Edition.

THE INVASION OF THE CRIMEA BY KINGLAKE
Edinburgh and London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1863.
5 vols. of 8, 8vo (8.8 x 6 inches). Full calf by BICKERS and SON with twin red and terracotta labels. Gilt raised bands, wonderful floral tooling to the panels. Gilt outer edges, blind dentelles, marbled edges and endpapers. Slight spotting to the prelims, internally clean with large margins. Sadly lacking vols. 6, 7 and 8.
A classic full calf mid-Victorian binding. The five volumes look superb on the shelf. This still one the definitive works on the Crimean War. Alexander William Kinglake (August 5, 1809 - January 2, 1891) was an English travel writer and historian.
