POEMS OF COWPER
COWPER, William.
Poems.
London: J. Johnson & Co., 1812.
2 vols., 8vo (6½" tall). Full calf. Pretty tree calf binding with dark bands, elegant gilt panels and titles. Though slightly faded, still a fine regency binding.
A distinctive Regency binding. Cowper was of one the most popular poets of his day, with highlights including the ballad John Gilpin and his highly successful poem about rural ease, The Task. Although perhaps less known today, his work remains important for its far-reaching influence on the development of a more natural style in English poetry.
