A handsome Victorian theology binding. George Herbert (1593?1633) was clergyman and poet, who enjoyed a close friendship with John Donne and more recently influenced poets including T.S. Eliot and Seamus Heaney. His most important work is The Temple, an immensely popular collection of English devotional lyrics, some of which were later set to music by Purcell and Blow.
