4 vols., 12mo (6.75 x 4.25 inches). Full speckled calf, with rectangular title label, gilt lettering and bands. Boards framed with single gilt rule. Red speckled edges. Illustrated with superb engraved plates, including frontispiece portrait. Wide margins. Little worn. An excellent set.
A simple, very prettty eighteenth century binding. Thomson was an important eighteenth century poet whose Seasons poems "first challenged the artificiality of English poetry, and inaugurated a new era by their sentiment for nature" (Oxford Companion to English Literature).
