4 vols., small 8vo (8.75 x 5.5 inches). Contemporary quarter green morocco, with gilt bands and lettering. Marbled boards, edges and endpapers. Wide margins. Boards slightly darkened at shoulder. Occasional foxing. Overall in excellent condition.
A simple but very pleasing late eighteenth century set, in contemporary bindings. Fielding is considered "beyond question the real founder of the English novel as a genuine picture of men and women, and in some respects has never been surpassed." (DNB). Tom Jones remains his best known work, vividly demonstrating the warmth and humanity of his characters and writing.
