12mo (6½" tall). Superb full straight grain red morocco. Gilt raised bands, ornate pallets, gilt and blind floral centre tools to panels. Gilt and blind floral scroll framing boards. Fine dentelles and all edges gilt. Printed by one of the best known French printers, Firmin Didot. Illustrated with seven hand-coloured engraved plates, including title page. Slightly foxed, but otherwise in immaculate condition.
An exceptionally pretty French binding, illustrated with exquisite hand-coloured plates. This charming anthology of 15th to 17th century poetry on courtly love was compiled by the poet and translator Charles Malo; it includes works by important French literary figures Alain Chartier, Charles d'Orléans and Louise Labé.
