8vo (8 x 5.5 inches). Full green morocco, gilt raised bands, superb gilt tooling to panels and framing boards, dentelles and all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Fine engraved illustrations throughout after artists including Turner. Foxed, as is common with this edition, neat ownership inscription dated "10.1.[18]40". Very slightly sunned on spine. A very handsome copy.
A very attractive copy of Rogers' celebrated poem, Italy, with illustrations after Turner. Rogers was a well known man of letters in early nineteenth century England and he was offered, but declined, laureateship in 1850.
