3 vols., 8vo (9" tall). Half dark blue calf. An exceptionally pretty, yet restrained, set with titles in elaborate cartouches and simple centre tools with a flourish at the head and tail. Attractive pink marbled papers on boards.
A fine set in a distinctive Regency binding. Butler's Hudibras is a satire in the form of a mock-heroic poem, which ridicules the hypocrisy of the Presbyterians and Independents. First published in three parts from 1663-1678, it was highly approved by Charles II, who gave Butler £300 and later a pension of £100 a year.
